Polar Shades Sun Control is a licensed contractor, licensed electrician, and manufacturer in the state of Nevada. A family owned business started in 1995 by its current owner, Steve Mevius, Polar Shades Sun Control is the largest manufacturer in the state of Nevada for sun control products. No small feat when you consider that Las Vegas has over 300 days of sunshine per year and providing sun control solutions is more for survival than just a passing whim.
When Steve started this company he saw that there was a basic need that just wasn’t being met. People were constantly looking for ways to control the excessive heat and glare. Finding a good quality solution was nowhere in sight, he decided to do his own research and set out to find the best quality material available and design products that would allow people to take control of their sun issues. What he found was that the products he needed didn’t exist so he met with extruders and created his own dyes and extrusions so he could realize his dream of quality retractable sun control products.
In 1995 with everything he needed now in place, Steve took an early retirement package from his employer, American Airlines, and along with his father, Art Mevius, they started Polar Shades Sun Control. With just two employees they set out to offer their new product to the people of Las Vegas. In just over 13 years, they now have over 32 employees in their 10,000 square foot, state of the art facility. Polar Shades invested in computerized fabric cutting tables and RF fabric welding machines that enable Polar Shades to manufacture the “Best Built, Best Backed” line of interior and exterior shades in the nation. Polar Shades now supplies over 300 independent dealers nationwide sharing their exclusive products. Steve even started a second company called All Seasons Retractable Screens, a retractable door company (now run by Art Mevius).
Since its inception, Polar Shade Sun Control has added retractable awnings, exterior retractable shades, interior retractable shades, and an electrical division to it’s product line. The motto for the company, as Steve always says, is “Quality you can trust with service you can count on!” and with that basic phrase he has poised Polar Shades to be one of the nation’s leaders in Sun Control Products. Honesty and integrity is what our business is based on.
